We learn with the Disciples what it means to become servants.
We learn to follow Jesus one step at a time
Personal ministry means that we are servants...we use our time, talents, and treasures for the Kingdom
Matthew 14:13-17
But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.”
Personal ministry surfaces a tension between God's request and your resources
Matthew 14:18-21
And he said, “Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
John 26: 26;32;35a
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill...truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven…I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger…”
The gravitational pull of every church is towards its members
Personal ministry collides with our doctrine of the Holy Spirit
"The Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel and illuminated me with His gifts and sanctified and preserved me in the true faith"
